Why don’t we begin with what Mindfulness is?

I began my mindfulness journey around six years ago though it’s only recently that I really became cognizant of mindful eating. I could never claim to be an expert on this topic, because I’m definitely still a work in progress! However, I’ve witnessed and experienced first hand the indisputably positive effects of approaching life through a mindful lens and I know that wherever you are in your journey, you will too!

To kick-off, I just want to boldly state that Mindfulness is a tool that is readily available to all of us. It is not something that is accessible by a select or elite few, it is something we all possess the ability to achieve.

So what is it?!

Well, according to mindful.org, Mindfulness is:

The basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

With roots in ancient Buddhist meditation — known for its willpower skills, including attention, focus, stress management, impulse control and self-awareness — Mindfulness embraces consistent nurturing and non-judgemental awareness of our thoughts, feelings, sensations and environment.

A student of Zen Buddhist teachers and often credited with bringing a more secular and science-based form of Mindfulness to the mainstream population, the American Professor, Jon Kabat-Zinn, went on to found MBSR…
